KZN Business Listing Grant AdlamGROW YOUR VISIBILITY THROUGH THE NEXUS Since 1998, the KZN Top Business initiative has built a trusted platform for business visibility and credibility across KwaZulu-Natal. In 2026, as businesses compete for attention in an increasingly digital marketplace, being visible to the right audience has become an essential part of building trust and creating opportunities. The launch of the KZN Top Business Nexus represents the next step in this evolution, combining digital visibility with opportunities for meaningful business connections. It enables businesses to build on the established KZN Top Business network while strengthening their presence in the regional market. Grant Adlam, CEO of KZN Top Business, says, “The KZN Top Business Nexus has been designed for businesses seeking to strengthen both their digital footprint and real-world connections. It is a dynamic ecosystem that bridges the gap between online visibility and in-person engagement, ensuring that brands are not only seen but actively sought out.” Through Google optimisation strategies, participating businesses can benefit from increased search visibility, supported by the collective authority of the KZN Top Business network. The aim is to help businesses appear where potential customers and business partners are already looking. A TIERED APPROACH The Nexus offers a structured three-tier model, providing businesses with different levels of participation depending on their objectives and stage of growth. Tier 1: The List | The Entry Point The List provides an accessible starting point for businesses wanting to establish or strengthen their presence within the KZN Top Business network. It provides inclusion in an established business database, giving participating companies an opportunity to increase their digital presence and become part of a recognised regional business platform. Tier 2: The Connectors Club | The Growth Engine For businesses looking to move beyond visibility and develop new commercial opportunities, the Connectors Club provides a more active networking and marketplace environment. Members can showcase their products and services as benefits to fellow members, creating opportunities for collaboration, referrals and new business. Members can also offer exclusive discount coupons to clients, providing an additional incentive for customers to engage with participating businesses. The combination of business referrals and client offers creates a two-way opportunity. Members can generate referrals within the Nexus community while using special offers and discounts to attract and retain their own customers. The focus shifts from simply being listed to actively engaging with a community of businesses and potential customers. Tier 3: Platinum Membership | The Inner Circle Platinum Membership is aimed at businesses seeking a higher level of exposure, engagement and strategic positioning. This tier provides an opportunity for closer collaboration with KZN Top Business, supported by dedicated media exposure and positive business storytelling. By highlighting member organisations and their achievements, Platinum Membership is designed to help established businesses strengthen their profile and position themselves within the wider provincial economy. Adlam says the Nexus reflects the changing way businesses build relationships and generate opportunities. “Businesses are encouraged to act decisively and secure their place rather than risk being outpaced in an environment where visibility, credibility and connection define success. At KZN Top Business, our motto is ‘success breeds success’.” The KZN Top Business Nexus brings together digital visibility, business connections, referrals, client incentives and storytelling in one platform, creating new opportunities for companies to grow their presence and connect with the wider KwaZulu-Natal business community. https://app.kzntopbusiness.com

WHAT’S UP WITH YOUR BUSINESS GROWTH, KZN? THE APP YOUR CUSTOMERS NEVER CLOSE IS NOW YOUR BUSINESS ENGINE.
Around 96% of South Africa’s internet users are on WhatsApp. Is your business? As a regular reader you will know I usually take the strategic view, writing about key topics such as reputation and trust, metrics and measurement, the customer journey, AI and the big picture. This month we go narrow and deep, practical and tactical. Let’s get your hands on one of the most power business tools we have at our fingertips yet are not effectively, and profitably, implementing: WhatsApp. The numbers make the case quickly. WhatsApp has more than three billion users worldwide and reaches 96% of South African internet users, that is roughly 29 million people spending almost 24 hours a month in the app. Meta’s 2026 “State of Business Messaging” study, a Kantar survey across 22 markets, found 73.3% of consumers prefer messaging a business over any other contact channel. Grant Cardone, an American businessman, real estate investor and author, best known for creating the “10X” motivational and business philosophy said it best: “It’s not the big that eat the small; it’s the fast that eat the slow.”Messaging is where fast lives, and for a Midlands lodge, a Richards Bay logistics firm or an Umhlanga advisory practice, the cost of being slow is measurable. “WhatsApp is moving from a messaging app to an essential layer of your business operating system.” THE THREE WHATSAPP “SYSTEMS” IN THIRTY SECONDS 1. WhatsApp personal. Where your customers live, but where your business should not. No profile, no catalogue, no separation between weekend and work. 2. WhatsApp Business, the free app. A verified profile, a catalogue of up to 500 products, quick replies and broadcast lists of up to 256 opted-in contacts. A real upgrade for a Ballito boutique or Pinetown workshop. 3. The WhatsApp Business Platform (API). The serious tool. It deserves its own section.THE API: A DECISION TREE, NOT A CHAT – your customer or prospect journey defined. Here is the big difference. The API is not backwards-and forwards messaging with a company account. It is a decision tree, a designed journey that, at its core, but not exclusively should take each visitor down one of two avenues. But it is so much more and can do so much more. Here’s the essentials. Avenue one: sales and lead filtering. Each response – what the customer needs, where they are, their budget, their urgency – builds a clear picture of the opportunity, while the flow simultaneously explains your offering. By the time the lead reaches a salesperson it is warm and qualified, and the API has worked as your 24/7 sales coordinator. The hidden bonus: every opted-in conversation is building a database you own. And that database is gold. Email marketing still performs with global open rates around 20–25% and click-through rates of 2–5%, but WhatsApp messages achieve open rates near 98% and click through rates typically between 45% and 60%. Same database. Ten times the engagement, in our most trusted space. Avenue two: service and customer care. With your frequently asked questions deeply embedded in the automated or AI powered bot, around 80% of routine queries can be handled immediately. Avis’s WhatsApp assistant already resolves 70% of enquiries, cutting support costs 39% in a year. Three benefits follow. Firstly, most queries are answered on the spot, any time, night or day. Secondly, unresolved queries are routed to the right person right away, not sent to a general inbox that is seldom opened. Finally, those FAQs feed your visibility across all the AI engines, and not just Meta AI (which is one of the biggest and most undervalued AI engines), as these AI platforms (LLMs) are being trained on the questions and solutions your business is receiving all the time and by answering these with your FAQs your business becomes more discoverable in the AI world. And the API is remarkably configurable. Unique business solutions can be built around your exact process. FlySafair, which I am sure most of us have used, runs bookings, check-in, boarding passes, flight updates and even luggage payments through WhatsApp, with over 30,000 check-ins a month, and it is a superb customer experience. That is the standard to aim at.BROADCASTS, CHANNELS – AND NOW, ADSAround the API sit three more tools. Broadcasts to opted-in customers provide you with a hyper targeted audience that wants to hear from you and 98% of your messages will be opened and read. Then there are Channels, a one-to-many feed that Meta says 1.5 billion people open daily. Think of channels as your own, dedicated social media channel without the noise. Proudly KZN brands like East Coast Radio have already jumped onto this powerhouse digital channel, and WhatsApp channels are growing, rapidly. And now, paid reach: Status ads and Promoted Channels, rolled out globally from February 2026, and having just started appearing in South African Status feeds since August this year. Translation, WhatsApp is now a full funnel with ads, conversation, qualification, sales, and service, without the customer ever leaving the app.THE KZN BOTTOM LINEThink about your own phone. After your banking app, WhatsApp is probably your most trusted app –personal, familiar, and checked constantly. That trust is exactly why this is such a critical commercial tool: a lead machine that never sleeps, a service desk that answers in seconds, a database that compounds, and a growing gateway to AI discoverability. Treat it as another inbox and you get convenience. Wire it into your business ecosystem and you get speed, conversion and retention. The green icon is already on your customer’s mobile phone home screen. Get your business fully and profitably immersed in the WhatsApp ecosystem before your competitor does.M: +27 (0) 84 555 0005 P: 086 111 2939 (SA Sharecall Only) E: terry@cannectdigital.com W: www.cannectdigital.com

A LEAD ENQUIRED. - Cannect Digital
A LEAD ENQUIRED. YOU DIDN’T RESPOND. YOUR COMPETITOR DID. - Cannect Digital Writer: Terry Flack Terry Flack 4 min read M arketing must drive sales and sales must drive profitable business growth. That’s business 101. Simple really. Actually not! Yet the reason is simple. Between marketing and sales, quality, qualified leads, who are searching for you, who have researched you, who have taken the time to contact you, fall between the cracks (or in some cases the gapping conversion gorge.) And businesses wonder why sales are down! I briefly touched on Response Rate in my February Business Sense Article titled “No Sales, No Business: Why Marketing Must Provide a Clear Path to Purchase” so let’s dive into what is possibly the most underrated growth lever in marketing. Here’s a scenario every business owner in KZN has experienced, whether they know it or not. A potential customer visits your your enquiry form (which in itself is often problematically overly simplified and has no prequalification questions.) They’re interested. They’re ready. And then… nothing. Your sales team gets to it after lunch. Maybe the next morning. Maybe never. Meanwhile, your competitor responded in four minutes via WhatsApp, asked questions, answered questions, and sent a quote. Game over. Sale lost! T his isn’t a hypothetical. Research consistently shows that 78% of customers buy from the f irst business that responds to their enquiry. Not the cheapest. Not the biggest. The fastest. A Harvard Business Review study found that companies responding within an hour are seven times more likely to have a meaningful conversation with a decision-maker than those who wait even sixty minutes longer. Worse still, data from Velocify reveals that responding within one minute increases conversions by a staggering 391%. Yet the average business takes over 42 hours to respond to a lead. Let that sink in. 42 hours. In a world where your customer has already moved on after 42 minutes. As Jeff Bezos put it in the context of speed of interaction in Amazon’s world “Your margin is my opportunity.” In relation to lead response, your delay is yourcompetitor’s opportunity. Every minute you wait, buyer intent decays. The enquiry that felt urgent at 9:15am feels like a distant memory by the next day. The prospect has Googled three more suppliers, spoken to one, and is now comparing quotes. You’re not even in the race. So, What’s the Fix? The answer is not “hire more salespeople” or “tell the team to check emails more often.” T he answer is systems. Digital tools that respond instantly, qualify intelligently, and hand over warm, ready leads to your sales team. Here are three that every KZN business should be deploying right now: WhatsApp as your always-on f irst responder. With 96% of South African internet users on WhatsApp, it is the most natural communication channel for your customer. An API driven WhatsApp chatbot can acknowledge an enquiry in seconds, ask qualifying questions, share pricing or brochures, and book a callback – all while your sales team is in a meeting, at lunch, or asleep. It doesn’t replace your salespeople. It ensures that by the time they pick up the phone, the prospect is already engaged, qualified, and expecting the call. Automated email responders that nurture, not spam. The moment a lead fills in a form or downloads a resource from your website, an automated email sequence should trigger. Not a generic “thanks for your enquiry” but a strategic, value-driven series: a welcome message with social proof, a case study relevant to their industry, and a clear call to action. Done well, automated email nurturing builds trust and moves the prospect down the funnel before a single human interaction takes place. LinkedIn for B2B lead generation and relationship acceleration. If you’re in the B2B space, your next client is on LinkedIn. But posting content alone won’t cut it. Targeted LinkedIn outreach – connecting with decision-makers, engaging with their content, and initiating direct conversations – creates a warm pipeline that feeds directly into your sales funnel. When a LinkedIn connection becomes a website visitor who then receives an automated email and a WhatsApp follow-up, you’ve built a digital ecosystem that sells, even when your team isn’t selling. Speed is the New Currency In my previous article I asserted that marketing must provide a clear path to purchase. Response time is where that path either accelerates or collapses. You can have the best Google Ads campaign, the most beautiful website, and a five-star reputation – but if your lead response time is measured in hours instead of minutes, you are funding your competitor’s growth. A couple of years ago at a sales presentation the following eye opening analogy was proffered. Let it percolate for a moment. Same lead, same opportunity, the difference in success and growth came down to the response time: ■ Respond in less than 30 minutes – 80% chance of getting the deal ■ Respond in less than 1 hour – 60% chance of getting the deal ■ Respond in less than half a day – 40% chance of getting the deal ■ Respond in a day or more – 20% chance of getting the deal As performance marketers, we live by a simple truth captured perfectly by sales strategist and bestselling author, Grant Cardone: “Speed is the new big. It’s not the big that eat the small; it’s the fast that eat the slow.” Your lead enquired. The only question is: who responded first? Navigating AI-Driven Growth, Strategic Investment, and Workforce Transformation - Business Sense
Welcome to this edition of Business Sense, where we continue to explore the evolving landscape of business strategy, innovation, and sustainable growth. In an environment defined by rapid technological advancement and increasing economic complexity, our aim remains to provide timely, relevant, and practical insights that support stronger decision-making and long-term value creation. This issue brings together a focused selection of articles that reflect key shifts shaping the modern business environment. Our cover feature, “AI Shifts Marketing to Profit Hub” (Page 3), examines how artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming marketing functions from cost centres into strategic profit drivers. The article highlights how data-driven intelligence, automation, and predictive analytics are enabling organisations to unlock new revenue streams, enhance customer engagement, and significantly improve return on marketing investment. We also explore the principle of “Smart Business Investment? Prevention Over Cure” (Page 4), which reinforces the importance of proactive decision-making in mitigating operational, financial, and reputational risk. Rather than reacting to challenges after they arise, the focus shifts toward embedding resilience, foresight, and structured risk management into core business investment strategies.Another key feature, “Setting the Stage for the Employment Bond” (Page 16), provides an in-depth look at the evolving dynamics of workforce retention and contractual frameworks. The article considers how employment bonds are being used to protect organisational investment in skills development, while also balancing legal, ethical, and talent retention considerations in a competitive labour market.Across all articles in this edition, a common theme emerges: the need for agility, foresight, and disciplined execution in navigating today’s business environment. Whether through the adoption of advanced technologies, strengthening investment decision frameworks, or rethinking workforce strategies, businesses are being called to adapt with greater intentionality and strategic clarity. As always, Business Sense remains committed to informing, challenging, and supporting business leaders as they navigate change and pursue sustainable growth. We thank you for your continued engagement and look forward to accompanying you on this journey of insight and innovation.
